Just Do It

April 15, 2009 · 1 Comment

“Just do it”?  Yes and no.  True, we shouldn’t hesitate to do good to those who deserve it when it’s within our power to act (Proverbs 3:27).   However, it is also true that we need to guard against blindly following foolish impulses that deplete the time and resources we should be giving to more worthy causes.  A good question to ask is “Who am I doing this for?”  If it’s for yourself, maybe you should think and pray before you leap.  If it’s a selfless act of love—and God is prompting you to move—then by all means, just do it!  Time is ticking away. (1 Peter 1:22-25)

Wonderful Life

December 5, 2008 · 2 Comments

Ever seen the movie It’s a Wonderful Life?  If you’re not familiar with this holiday classic starring Jimmy Stewart, it’s a tale of a man named George Bailey who hopes to one day leave his childhood town and “build things”–somehow make a difference in the world.  His problem is that he fails to recognize the world of difference he is making right where he lives.  Isn’t that our life-long struggle?  How many of us ever achieve our “dreams”?  Yet while we’re pursuing them, what opportunities do we mistake for distractions?  No wonder Jesus said, “If you cling to your life, you will lose it; but if you give up your life for me, you will find it” (Matt. 10:39).  Fortunately, Goeorge Bailey finds his life before the film is over.  How about you?

Dash=Fast?

June 19, 2008 · 3 Comments

Just thinking…does the inescapable brevity of our dash necessitate a hurried lifestyle?  Or does making our lives count have more to do with daily surrender to our ”Dash-giver’s” agenda–fast-paced or slow?  It’s easy to feel the pull toward busy-ness, but perhaps the quality of our dash should not be measured by how much activity we pack into it.

It’s your dash…it’s up to you.

December 7, 2007 · 4 Comments

The latest statistics show that 10 out of 10 people die.  With death so certain, you would think most of us would consider more seriously    1) how we should live our lives, and 2) what happens after life.  But ironically, we are constantly distracted from these essential questions by life itself.  Nonetheless, you’ve come here right now, and you’re thinking about your dash.  Could it be that the One who gave you your dash loves you and is trying to get your attention before it’s too late?  The creators of yourDash.net believe there is a God who loves you, that He has good plans for your life if you’ll trust Him, and that you can know for certain where you’ll spend eternity.  Do you have that same certainty?  If not, here are two great opportunities to put life on pause and explore what your “Dash Giver” has in mind for your life and your eternity.  Just click on: http://www.godspeaks.com or http://www.activeword.org/best-decision.cfm.  It’s your dash…it’s up to you.

Do Dashes Just Happen Or Is There A Dash Giver?

October 12, 2007 · 13 Comments

So we all agree that we all have a dash. What next?

A lot of the comments on the first post talk about God, and serving, and church, and purpose, and lost loved ones – but what about where our dashes come from.

Let’s back up a little and think about our dashes and what or where they come from.
Does it (our dash, our life) just happen?
Were we given our dash?
Why do you believe that?
How does that belief affect what you do with your dash?
